As scheduling for the Spring 2020 semester comes upon us, we’re all stressing. What will classes be like? Will they still be online? What’s the best way to schedule? What classes should I even take? What do I do?? We may not have the answers, but we’ll do our best to help.
No matter your major, taking a look at the advising sample schedule for your major/program is a great place to start. Major and program outlines help prepare students for what to take, whether you’re a freshman or a senior. Many of the Ohio State colleges also have great outlets and resources to follow and advisors to reach out to. For example, some great advisors at in the Fisher College of Business include Audrey Van Ostran and Mouris Danials - both who some of our members have had great experiences with.
According to a CBS report*, the Ohio State University commented that they plan to stick to with a blend of in-person and online classes for the Spring 2021 semester. The first week of classes beginning January 11th will be online to allow people, “ample time to quarantine prior to any in-person sessions.” So no, it might not be the semester we were hoping for, but maybe throwing some fun classes into your schedule may help.
If you’re a student looking for GEs (general education courses) to fill your requirement, you need filler classes, or you just want to take something fun and easy, here are some recommendations from our PSE Gamma Nu members:
ARTEDUC 1600: Art and Music Since 1945
PHILOS 2465: Death and the Meaning of Life
HSC 2270: History of Golf Design
KNSFHP 1104: Stress Management
FDSCTE 1110: Chocolate Science
ATHROP 2200: Introduction to Physical Anthropology
CLAS 2200: Classical Mythology
FDSCTE 1120: Beer and Wine
MUSIC 2252: History of Rock ‘n’ Roll
If fun classes don’t make it better, another great way to make things easier is to get involved. OSU has over 1400 student organizations for students to get involved with and make their spring semesters more exciting. Even if these organizations have meeting requirements and can only meet on zoom, it is still a great opportunity to meet students outside of your normal classes. Pi Sigma Epsilon is one of the business fraternities that accepts all majors at Ohio State. Even while following OSU and CDC precautions, our chapter and members ensure that all new members get the opportunities that any other new member classes get. And this is the same for nearly all organizations at Ohio State so be sure to check out OSU’s activities page to find the best clubs and groups for you: https://activities.osu.edu/.
It may not be the semester we were expecting, but do what you can to try to have the best semester possible.
